A modified version of the Multi-Dimensional Analysis (MDA) framework serves to examine linguistic variation both within textbooks and compared to corpora representing ‘real-life’ English as used outside the EFL classroom. The results highlight the characteristics of Textbook English that define it as a distinct variety of English. In light of the study's pedagogical implications, this book proposes a range of corpus-based approaches to improve the naturalness of textbook texts. It also contributes to advancing quantitative corpus linguistics methodology: its detailed online supplements aim for methodological transparency and reproducibility in line with the principles of Open Science. This book will be of interest to linguistics and language education students and researchers, as well as EFL teachers, textbook authors and editors, and those involved in curriculum development and teacher training. 04 09 01 https://benjamins.com/covers/475/scl.116.png 04 03 01 https://benjamins.com/covers/475_jpg/9789027214935.jpg 04 03 01 https://benjamins.com/covers/475_tif/9789027214935.tif 06 09 01 https://benjamins.com/covers/1200_front/scl.116.hb.png 07 09 01 https://benjamins.com/covers/125/scl.116.png 25 09 01 https://benjamins.com/covers/1200_back/scl.116.hb.png 27 09 01 https://benjamins.com/covers/3d_web/scl.116.hb.png 10 01 JB code scl.116.ded v vi 2 Miscellaneous 1 <TitleType>01</TitleType> <TitleText textformat="02">Dedication</TitleText> 10 01 JB code scl.116.toc vii x 4 Table of contents 2 <TitleType>01</TitleType> <TitleText textformat="02">Table of contents</TitleText> 10 01 JB code scl.116.ack xi xii 2 Acknowledgments 3 <TitleType>01</TitleType> <TitleText textformat="02">Acknowledgements</TitleText> 10 01 JB code scl.116.lof xiii xvi 4 Miscellaneous 5 <TitleType>01</TitleType> <TitleText textformat="02">List of figures</TitleText> 10 01 JB code scl.116.lot xvii xviii 2 Miscellaneous 6 <TitleType>01</TitleType> <TitleText textformat="02">List of tables</TitleText> 10 01 JB code scl.116.glossary xix xx 2 Miscellaneous 7 <TitleType>01</TitleType> <TitleText textformat="02">List of abbreviations</TitleText> 10 01 JB code scl.116.c1 1 4 4 Chapter 8 <TitleType>01</TitleType> <TitleText textformat="02">Chapter 1.
